Welcome to the website of Australian violinist, Richard Pulley

Richard recently appeared with the University of NSW Orchestra, performing the work he played in the orchestra's inaugural concert, Vivaldi's "Spring" from The Four Seasons, as well as Chausson's beautiful Poème.

Later in the year he can be heard at St Stephens Uniting Church, Macquarie Street, Sydney. And in November he will be reunited with the renowned Charisma ensemble for a performance of Schoenberg's Suite Op. 29 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

And in 2011, Brahms's majestic Violin Concerto with the Armidale Symphony Orchestra.

Recent Collaborations:

The UNSW Orchestra was founded in 1989 to bring the live performance of fine music to the University community and to the many people who live in the surrounding suburbs. There are, at any one time, about 65 players in the Orchestra. Additional guest players are brought in as the need arises, usually for the rarer instruments such as bass clarinet, contrabassoon, harp and celeste, or when a large-scale symphonic work is on the program.

Almost 1000 UNSW students, staff and alumni have played in the Orchestra over the first 20 years of its existence. This remarkable figure shows what a wealth of amateur musical talent there is on campus. It also reflects the inevitable annual turnover among players, as existing players go off with their degrees and new players join.

The Orchestra’s repertoire is mainly from the Classical and Romantic eras, but a number of modern works have been performed, as well, including works by Australian composers.

The pianist David Miller is widely recognized as one of Australia's leading chamber musicians and vocal accompanists. He has been appointed as a member of the Order of Australia for his service to music.

His distinguished career has included partnerships with many internationally renowned string players including Raphael Wallfisch, Takako Nishisaki, Igor Osim, Boris Belkin, Sue Blake, Roger Benedict, Chris Kimber and Georg Pedersen . He has also been involved with a number of chamber ensembles including the Huntington Piano Trio, the Elizabethan Piano Trio and the Grevillea Ensemble; he has partnered members of the Australia Ensemble, Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony.

David Miller has been on the staff of Sydney Conservatorium of Music since 1980 and in 1995 was appointed the first chair of the Ensemble Studies Unit, with responsibility for Chamber Music/Accompaniment tuition and administration throughout the institution.  His studio has produced many of Australia’s finest piano accompanists and he has been instrumental in setting up the Geoffrey Parsons Australian Scholarship to assist all young accompanists and repetiteurs in the development of their careers.
