Violinist Richard Pulley is a frequent recitalist with Sydney's leading pianists and organists, including David Miller AM, Daniel Herscovitch and David Drury. Richard has been heard on 2MBS-FM and ABC-FM, and recently he has collaborated with the acclaimed new music ensemble Charisma.
Growing up in Armidale NSW, he obtained his L.Mus.A with
distinction and moved to Sydney to study violin with Alice Waten under an AMEB
scholarship. During this time he was selected to participate in a master-class
with celebrated Russian violinist Valery Klimov. As a teenager he toured the
United States as a member of the 1st violins of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Richard
also won a place with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and toured Europe
and Asia with the Australian Youth Orchestra. He was appointed Concert-Master
of the AYO for concerts in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.
Richard led the Sydney Youth Orchestra, and he was the
founding leader of both the UNSW Orchestra and The Occasional Performing
Sinfonia (TOPS): for his contributions to the former he received an Alumni
Award from the university. He later returned to UNSW to complete his
postgraduate studies in music, and perform the Beethoven Violin Concerto as
part of the University's 50th Anniversary celebrations. Other concertos that
Richard has performed as soloist include those by Sibelius, Tchaikowsky,
Wieniawski, Mendelssohn and Bruch.
This year he will perform Chausson's Poème with UNSWO, perform two recitals at St Stephens Church, Macquarie St, and join Charisma in a performance of Schoenberg's Suite Op. 29. In 2011 he will perform the Brahms Violin Concerto with the Armidale Symphony Orchestra.
